In celebration of Museums and Galleries Months this October, ManilArt, the longest-running visual arts fair, commenced its highly anticipated event with an exclusive gala night at the SMX Convention Center Aura on October 9, 2024. The event attracted art enthusiasts, collectors, and distinguished guests. The opening night marked the beginning of a five-day art fair with the theme “Prisms and Mosaics”, showcasing the richness and diversity of Filipino contemporary art.

During the vernissage program, NCCA Deputy Executive Director for Administration and Support Services Marichu Tellano delivered the opening remarks, while Deputy Executive Director for Operations Bernan Joseph Corpuz conveyed the message of NCCA Chair Victorino Mapa Manalo. The vernissage was graced by the presence of National Artist Rio Alma, DepEd Philippines Secretary Sonny Angara, National Museum of the Philippines Diretor-General Jeremy Barns, Department of Tourism – Philippines Undersecretary Shereen Pamintuan-Yu, Commissioner for the Arts Arvin Villalon as well as members of the National Committees, dignitaries, and embassy representatives. Also in attendance were key figures such as ManilArt Exhibitors Relations Director Rio Ambrosio, ManilArt Foundation president Amy Loste, head curator Danny Rayos del Sol, Bonifacio Global City Barangay Captain Jorge Bocobo and ManilArt Fair director Gab Loste.

The event showcased works from over 260 artists and 34 exhibitors. A special book launch for “Ramon Orlina: Vision in Glass,” celebrating the sculptor’s 50-year career, took place following the vernissage program. The book launch, attended by featured artist Ramon Orlina, writer Cid Reyes, book designer Dopy Doplon, and Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, was held at the Orlina Lounge of ManilArt.

Supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the ManilArt Foundation, the fair showcased its significance as a platform for Philippine contemporary art. ManilArt 2024, an intersection of creativity, tradition and innovation, promises to provide a vibrant showcase of the country’s artistic talent. The national art fair will run until October 13, 2024 featuring special lectures and pocket activities.
